i'm an artist, afterschool teacher, wife, and friend.
i love all forms of art. photography. sewing. music. most everything vintage....
i'm inspired by many things. i hope to share them with you.
why the name greenbugbags?
one of my first loves was a 67 VW beetle. i saw an ad for the car in a local coffee shop and soon it became my green bug. for the next 15 years, it took me everywhere and became part of my identity. i was the girl with the green bug. i love it's design. vintage but modern. simple and clean. it has no bells and whistles, but thats how i like it.
now that i am embarking on a new phase of life (my 30's!), my green bug has inevitably become a "less practical" car to drive. although it might not take me everywhere anymore, i have decided to take it with me on this new journey. i've created a business and blog that i've named "greenbugbags." hope you will be along for the ride!
where do you find your fabric?
i have a few favorite thrift stores. every once in awhile i like to make a day of it and try to find new places. i love the thrill of the hunt and the surprise and excitement of finding the gems! it can be addicting! i always make sure to edit!
how long does it take you to make a bag?
it depends.
there are many steps. usually i will try to work on a few at a time.
in order to make a bag i have to:1. find the fabric
2. find a complementary fabric for the lining/handles/pockets
3. wash and dry the fabric
4. iron the fabric
5. lay out the pattern and decide the shape, placement, design etc of the bag.
this is the fun part but also the hardest part! when you use vintage fabric, you can't go back for more!
6. cut interior, exterior, pockets, and handles
7. attach interfacing if needed
7. sew! iron. sew! iron. sew!( rip out the mistakes... hopefully there aren't any but hey i'm not perfect!) sew again. iron.
8. gaze upon a finished "ooak" vintage bag!
